Beatty Ranch is located at 1800 feet on Howell Mountain on the east side of Napa Valley in the Vaca Mountain Range just off White Cottage Road and Keyes Avenue. The soil is red clay, created from ancient volcanic activity, and is ideal for producing grapes of intense varietal character. Beatty Ranch is home to the oldest Zinfandel in the appellation and some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the AVA. Mike Beatty acquired the property in 1977 and, thanks to his pioneering vision, he reworked a struggling vineyard and farmed it for quality, establishing it as one of Howell Mountain’s premier vineyards. This 34 acre parcel is planted roughly to 2/3 Cabernet Sauvignon and 1/3 Zinfandel with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot, and quickly became a favorite for premium producers.
