Two-Puffs & 92 point rating awarded to our 2016 Primitivo Clone Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Primitivo Clone Zinfandel received a 92 point rating from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine.

As is the case with both of its equally well-made cellarmates, this is a very deep and impressively filled wine that is rife with concentrated, ripe raspberry and black berry fruit, yet it goes a step further when it comes to complexity and is accented with sympathetic elements of spice and dusty soil. It is, at present, a bit tight at the finish with both acidity and tannin making themselves known, but it will relax and round into fine shape with a few years of age, and we expect it to evolve and improve for at least a half-dozen more.

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel received a 91 point rating & Two Puffs from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

Ample ripeness, as this well-made Zinfandel so capably demonstrates, need not come at the cost of balance and polish, and, when met with as much deep and energetic fruit as is on display here, is no liability. The wine is quite full in body but is not sprawling or oversized, and its linear, very long-lasting flavors are marked by a striking sense of varietal purity and early gleanings of further layering to come with age. We see it deepening and becoming even more interesting with time, and, while not at all difficult to taste now, it is sure to reward a good half-decade of keeping.

90 point rating awarded to our 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel received a 90 point rating from Wine Enthusiast Magazine:

From some of the oldest plantings on the producer's mountain site, planted pre-Prohibition, this wine is thick, dense and plummy in dried fruit, tobacco and oak. Generous tannin structure makes it strong in style, dominant in blackberry, cherry and dark chocolate as it finishes.
